With what's said in the news post for this, there might be a chance they'll try to take models from Generations Arena.

Chances are high it'll get canned, though.

It's not going to happen.  I think we only have copyright on the name "Generations Arena" but I wouldn't swear to it.  LeeMon would be the one to ask as to whether or not they can call it "Generations".  Either way, the amount of work involved would be astounding.  We're still working on Gen for Q3, there's no way someone's going to do it for Doom 3 even if it WERE legal.  Besides having to remake all the weapon models and functions, you'd have physics issues galore, courtesy of that 1066 gravity value and 60FPS hard-capped internal clock.  That doesn't even broach the subject of maps, monsters, etc...  You're talking about remaking 4 or more complete games within the uber-complex Doom 3 environment.  Even if the legal hurdles didn't kill it, the workload would.  The end result will be a non-starter at best, and at worst a project that turns out horribly buggy and half-completed before the team implodes or gets bored and gives up.

I saw a screenshot of this mod here: http://www.quake.de/show_picture.php?id=256 . Slipgate - Asleep

IMO, there's not a chance in hell this Doom3 mod will ever see the light of the day, never mind the legal obstacles.

It'll be interesting to see how far this gets before the inevitable happens. As much as ripped models and maps help the authenticity level there really is only one outcome. Q2, anyone..?

I assume it's one of those placeholder models from the leaked Doom3 alpha.

Which doesn't make it any less illegal, of course.

No, that's a Quake 3 plasma gun set at an odd angle. You can get the same effect in CPMA with custom offset settings that are really high. Honestly I'm surprised you guys didn't recognize it straight off. The plasma projectiles are from D3 however.

I'm getting a 404 for the mod's homepage from a link on Doom 3 Classic that used to work. It's looking dim for these guys.

That placeholder model in the Doom3 alpha is the Quake3 plasma gun set at an odd angle. This is exactly how it looks like in the alpha. Id Software probably used it for early weapon code testing in Doom3. I suspect that these modmakers have been messing around with the alpha.
