I tried to make a .pk3 file with custom sounds for DooM weapons, but the sounds won't appear in-game. How do I install custom sounds into Gen without modifying the mod's .pk3s?

I've used same folderstructure and soundfiles names same as gen, and created pack named sounds.pk3, placed in mod folder and it works for me.  Thumbs up!

It seems that the problem  was the name of the .pk3. Thanks Kingu.

pk3's are loaded in alphabetical order, si if your pack was called doomsounds.pk3 that is why, as the sounds in the gen pack (starting with p - pak9_genv99e.pk3) would be loaded like this:
load doomsounds.pk3 -> load sounds in gens pack overwrittting the doomsounds.pk3

Is it possible to add a sound to the game that doesn't exist, like a sound to the Strogg Machinegun?

If I remember, all machineguns use same arena sound.

The mp-40 has a separate sound in the 99e .pk3.

The MP-40 and Strogg machinegun currently share a sound, but it is not the Arena machinegun sound.  The Strogg single shotgun uses the Arena shotgun sound though.  We don't have the sound structure complete, so a lot of stuff is piecemeal.  Once I'm done with the weapon frames stuff client-side, all the sounds will be correctly placed (code-wise), but I'll be using placeholder sounds from the original games during development (in other words, unreleased to the public at that stage) to make sure everything times right.  It'll help with gauging how the game feels.  Once 1.0 is released all the sounds SHOULD be properly pathed and we SHOULD have all new sounds where needed.

That means you are going to include the original sounds from all the games?

Slipgate - Sad. Ah well, it's not that I don't have them all, it's just that I would like to hear them in Gen.
