I kinda like the the nailgun and hyperblaster in it. The nailgun has this neat alt fire mode to it that locks the nails on a target and homes in on them. Pretty sweet. Though they don't have much for mobility they are handy if firing on the move. Which in later levels it becomes essential unless you want to get turned into swiss cheese. The Hyperblaster, well that's were the kinda comes in. I got spoiled by the old q2 version and there's something different about about. Not really sure what though...

The multiplayer, I think, is a clone of q3 with enhanced graphics. Not too much new there. But plays fairly decent for me.

IMO it's well worth the purchase, and much better than d3. Now if  I could only stop from resorting to cheats near the end of the game to beat it... hehe.

I played the demo, then saw the game in town for 20 quid. I could not not but it then could I?

Haven't started playing it yet though.

Got a copy for BAT for christmas, cos he said to. He's finished D3 and the mission pack, which I haven't even played Doom3 ecxcept for the first couple of levels.

That's roughly the same as my CPU. Is the game playable at all?

Not by my standards.  I mean, you can move and shoot things at easier skill levels, but we're talking maybe 1 or 2 Strogg and maybe a Marine escorting you on the initial map.  This is all "first level" stuff.  That means once it gets to bigger fights or more complex environments later in the game you can pretty much forget about it, unless you like taking 15 minutes to load levels and playing what amounts to a stop-motion game.

now after much fiddling, generally making mistakes and corrupting the game at one point i can announce

the Easier playable settings for quake 4

now after much recoding, as i'm not half bad once i get going i give to you guys this

the quake 4 config that should solve your problems

   honestly i have had quake 4 working on my sisters and that's a 1.4GHZ

now with this i can run it at ultra quality at 35FPS

you may have to down grade the settings slightly to get it to run on yours tho pho as it's currently set for medium quality with all the effects

now the spec i ran this on

was 1.4ghz Pentium 4

256 Ram
and only 80gb of hardrive space plus
it was using a ge force 4Ti

i can't promise that it will run quake 4 better, but it ran at 32FPs on the lowest setting with my sisters PC

also lines in the config you may have to change

as that's currently set for my PC

but happy fragging if it works for you like it did for my sis

WHERE ARE ALL THE !#!@$%@# GIBS!?!?

Seriously, in every demo I've played so far of new games - Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Quake 4 - you cannot gib things, and bodies freaking disappear in Doom 3 and Quake 4.  I am sick of this "disappearing body" crap.  You hardly get to see what the monsters look like when they're trying to kill you, and usually that's when you can get a good look at them is when they're dead.  I want to gloat over my kills, dammit.  I don't care about "ragdoll" either, I want GIBS.  Gibs are good.  Gibs are fun.  Give me back my gibs!
