Yeah apparently there's some... thing going on with microsoft tracking email and paying people just to spam others part of it is as follows

Quote
Dear Friends:

Please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates sharing his fortune. If
you ignore this, You will repent later. Microsoft and AOL are now the largest
Internet companies and in an effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains
the most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta
test. When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track it
(if you are a Microsoft Windows user) for a two-week time period.

For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you
$245.00 For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft
will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives it, you will be
paid $241.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact you for your address and
then send you a check.

Honestly i don't know what to think of it, it seems ligit but... i honestly don't know....

I don't even believe this is legit. I think this is just a scam and should be ignored.

What about the sender's address though? Does THAT seem legit to you?

LOL no, sleep depravation and get cash quick schemes don't mix well...

however the part the confuses the living hell out of me is the scam part, or lack thereof, i don't see anywhere in the email saying you have to put out any cash or anything, it's... like a chain letter only promising money instead of luck...

"Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact you for your address and then send you a check."

That's the part I was talking about. But still, spam people just to get money? Hah, I wouldn't do it even if I seriously needed cash.

yeah no... i mean even if i knew it was ligit i wouldn't start spamming people left and right, just send it off to people i do know (and probably won't kill me)

nah knowing me i'd just make a post on an internet forum baisically saying "yeah... i got this thing in my mailbox what do you guys think?"

eh, it's only money (even though i am trying to save about $2000) not really worth pissing off a large amount of people over (then again...)

besides people were meant to work and toil to survive, those who don't and try to con others usually get what's coming to them (however being honest and looking for a windfall in life can't be as bad)

but all in all, i blame my lack of sleep

This is a very old, well-known internet hoax.  The mail is bogus.  Delete the chain letter and move on with your life.  Slipgate - Smile

Microsoft would loose a lot of money with that, and since they need that money for their atomic bomb, that e-mail is funky bogus.

Well not only that, but if it WERE true, it would mean Microsoft had built into Windows a way to track every email you sent and received.  Not a happy thought.

What surprises me, is that the spam-hoax copied in the first message manages to elicit such a huge amount of response (in this thread, myself included, apparently). It's an obvious fake, one out of many of its kind. It's undeserving of attention and harmless excepting its (unintended) function as an advertisement. Delete, ignore, proceed.
