Old-school FTW.
I had no idea that such thing existed. I knew about the Steamless project, but they created a brand-new WON! HL has a really dedicated community.

Well, something had to be done to help prevent the alienation of Valve's elder fanbase. I really can't think of any reason why Valve saw fit to Steam their back catalogue other than to reassert their frankly Orwellian attitude towards their customers. Sod 'em. I have the original, unsullied HL Generation and the only HL-related thing I'm looking forward right now to is the PC port of Decay that's on the cards, now that I have a LAN set up.

Not too fond of Valve's reaction to this myself.  I'm a bit tired of this centralized control mentality that companies are getting.  Long live the underground says I.
