Hey guys. I know this is not the proper section to post this (Because I don't know where else I can post it) but does anyone know the current release date of Generations Arena? Not wanting to sound like a hater, but the current version (0.99F) looks REALLY cheap in my eyes. The animations and skins are just... Not really well done. The "recent" videos of Generations Arena prove that the new version is going to be extremely awesome and an excellent quality product, so far so good. I understand if you can't think of a specific release date, I'm having the same problem with my projects. I will just never find a release date that's not delayed. Sure, no rush, take your time guys, we can wait Thank you.

Phoenix said, that there's lots of work to do, so I think we have to wait for a couple of years.

I know... it's taking forever, but I can't set a hard release date since, yes, there's a lot of work to still be done. Right now I'm working on implementing Team Arena weapons. After that's completed, I'll resume work on third person player model animations. After that I still have any additional gameplay modifiers we might want, as well as menu work, and some other various bug fixes. It's progressing... we have animated weapon models working 100% as well as a fully functional Q1/Q2-style particle system. What's working now is well ahead of what .99f is and is more along the lines of what's been in my head about how Generations should look and play. I wish I could release it tomorrow, believe me, but I want this to be the best damned game mod ever, and to be free of bugs. I just can't stand the idea of rushing a buggy game out the door. It happens way too often.

I remember how when I registered first time in forum (at end of 2010 I believe), I thought that Generations 1.00 will perhaps get released on 2011 or 2012. Boy, I was wrong, so here we are nearly 5 years later and still wasn't released. But I pretty much agree with Phoenix, 1.00 should be as bug-free as possible and believe me, the waiting will be worth when it gets finally released. I can't stand bugged releases either, especially after being delayed multiple times.

We understand man, take your time. Also is there any source code available? I would like to contribute.

Where I could really use some help right now is with models and some minor animation. The game source itself I pretty much have doing whatever I want, and I'm keeping tight control over right now. It's still under the old Q3A game source license as I didn't migrate that to the GPL licensed code. I'm wanting to keep that closed source since people have a habit of running off with our models without even asking and I know what would happen with the source code. After working on this so long, I'm sure you can understand that I don't want to entertain the possibility of someone else running off with our hard work.
The engine source runs independent of the game source and is under the GPL, so I'm completely willing to share engine source with anyone. It will compile under Visual Studio 2003 or later. I would only ask that any modifications to the code stay compatible: eg, no changing everything from C to C#, so that I can recompile under 2003 since changing development platforms is a headache for me - but those kinds of details can always be discussed later. If you know anything about OpenGL programming, we've been working on making Q3's dynamic lights not suck, but I'm having some issues with some of the shaders in Team Arena, and I'd love to move all the lighting over from CPU to GPU and use fragment shader programs, but I know zero about how to do that. I could reverse engineer Xreal's lighting code and work on implementing it later, but if someone's able to tinker with that now it would speed development for certain. I'll want to improve bot logic so that they understand their non-Q3A guns better as well. The game-source side is easy, but I haven't tinkered with the engine-side bot logic at all, so that's another area that could definitely use some help. If nothing else, I'm always in need of beta testers to try to break things and catch the occasional bug that I miss.
If any of that sounds like something you're able or willing to do - this applies to anyone else here too - send me a private message.

Hey Mr. Phoenix,
Did you received my private messages I send ya? If not, I want to tell you that I have over 98 hours to play Generations Arena this weeks. I can also help you with sounds, if you are interested (I'm a sound designer and have worked in sounds for over 7 years). For further information, please take a look at your message box when you can.
Thank you!

So, the Generations Arena 1.00 won't be released soon, but we want to see something interesting! Dear Phoenix, can you make some more gameplay videos demonstrating the stuff that had been already done. Maybe, just one more Doom Warriors video, demostrating all the weapons (including the Tesla Mine and BFG) or maybe video of other faction without new Team Arena weapons. It's not really hard to make a video. So please, show something to us. The community will appreciate that.

Seriously, the Doom weapons even have proper timing and every class is JUST like their counterparts The weapons, the arenas and fighting is epicly satisfying! The wait is definitely worth and the new version deserves a 1000/10 from me! Hm, I will see if I can record videos. But I am afraid I will have to ask Phoenix's permission, so no promises :/

Well, I think that Phoenix will give the permission. As I remember, he said that he just doesn't have time to make videos and that he's 'not a cinematographer'.

By all means record some vids. I'd rather stick to creating the mod than making videos.

I guess you will have to wait for awhile because I recently switched to Bandicam instead of FRAPS and I'm waiting for my license to come up. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

So, I asked some new videos about Generations one and half month ago. Is it possible to make them or my waiting is pointless?

Oh, sorry, I didn't know that he's from Greece. Thanks for your reply. I won't be annoying, so if you can record something about the Generations, I and some other fans will be happy to see. And if don't have an oppurtunity to do it, I will wait for the next update to see some new stuff. Thanks.
