For anyone who was confused, befuddled, or baffled about Revolutions or did not understand the ending and why things went the way they did, I suggest you read this article. If you've not seen Revolutions, beware, it's spoiler city.

I have a few things I'd like to add, and I'll spoiler-tag them.
The references to divinity that the author of the article uses are all 100% symbolic, so nobody blow a gasket and get offended. He is not calling Neo "Jesus" here; the story is one huge metaphor. It is fiction that has roots in many different religious philosophies, mixed with sci-fi and Kung-Fu, which is exactly what the Wachowski brothers described on the extras CD for Reloaded. Many of the conclusions in this article matched my own, except where my knowledge of mythology is lacking, specifically Hiduism and Buddhism. I cannot find any fault in the author's logic in his explanation either. I got a lot out of this myself, and I applaud the author for his insights. I do not know if the Wachowski brothers wrote the film to be deliberately along these lines or not, but if not, then it's one hell of a big coincidence, and far too coincidental to be accidental. That I find to be an interesting premise in itself. The article is long, but do read up. It brings a depth to the Matrix storyline that you otherwise might not be able to appreciate.[/color]

However, I thought that much of the symbolism, especially in Revolutions, was quite obvious to anyone with a working knowledge of such things (which is admittedly quite limited in the American movie-goer crowd, but still). These realizations will only go to further solidify sci-fi authors' plans to build giant cults, much like George Lucas has.

Interesting, I didn't know there was THAT much mythology crammed into the Matrix series, but I DID wind up at the same conclusion in the end. I think I have some reading to do.
