Looks like it's lacking something, but I'm not sure what.

Apart from a skin, the red armor is indeed lacking a bit. To help remove both the gothic/medieval look on the polies, and make it more interesting, I'll add some sort of shoulder guard.

Edit: Not a bad idea Tek. Most of that will be skinned, but I can model some straps, yes :]

Maybe instead of it being a one-size-fits-all kind of suit, perhaps you could add some buckles, zippers and the like to give it more of a utilitarian look for a modern soldier? I think some shoulder/collar-covering additions to the armor would help that kind of look out.

IMO, the lower-waist section that looks like it covers the hips gives the red armor a plate mail-ish look. If that could be removed, that would help make the armor look more modern.

Holy shit, Pho!! Thumbs up! I bet Carmack's hiding in a corner right now ...

Is the GL getting the same treatment? Slipgate - Wink

Tab: I think the red armour could do with a bit of 20th century beefing up. The yellow armour looks sweet  Thumbs up!

It sure is.  All the Slipgate weapons, save the Thunderbolt, are getting a makeover.  The Axe will not change geometry but we might reskin it.

I like the armour. Looks good. Does look a bit spanish I think.

Slipgate - Off Topic This will probably be my last post for a week - I am going for a holiday to the land of my GF's family - Northumberland. I will, if I have time see a lot of medieval armour. Where she comes from there are 3 real castles within 12 miles of the house, and they live overlooking the North Sea. In fact Harry potter was filmed in one of them. I intend to have a medieval week. Medieval - a new class for Gen maybe, swords and arrows, or is this too Hexen??

I don't have any worthwhile shots to post of the armor yet, but Tekhead made some good points, so expect it to be more like the design on the sketches, but with some straps and indents that make it look less medieval. I'm slowing down a bit.. but .. I'm .. still.. working.. on it.. must.. *coughhh* .. keep.. *hurrggnn* going... . .

Have a good one, shamb ;]

I'm not sure what to say about the Earth armors, it's hard to judge without the skins. The truth is that even if the models sucked, your skins would probably make them awesome anyway. I'd have to agree with Tekhead that it's the small details and nuances like buckles, straps, etc that will make the concept work as a melding of modern, futuristic, and medieval armor. I think the idea of having a kevlar vest for yellow, and a futuristic/Sarge-type for red was more appropriate. Right now the YA and RA feel really similar, maybe you should try to combine the best features of both into one for the red and then try something else for the yellow.

That aside, Tab, I think you can assume that if we don't say anything, it's cause your work is awesome as usual and no one has anything to criticise.

Aye lads, the skins will make or break these. There's a bigger difference between the 2 armors now. I'm against kevlar for the yellow, mainly because it's bland, boring, and not really worth 50 points armorwise ;]
I'll have em skinned soon, but I think I'll tackle the RL first :]

Edit: It seems I didn't.

That armor looks awesome, Tab...it reminds me of scales or something like that.  Looks like it'd suit Earth just fine.

Good job.
